Enhanced Living Standards in Historic District
The city of Münster is set to introduce new parking regulations in the streets Drubbel, Spiekerhof, Roggenmarkt, and Bogenstraße, aiming to enhance the quality of stay in the old town. The changes were jointly established by the Kiepenkerl e.V. neighbourhood association, the Department of Mobility, the Ordnance Office, and Münster Marketing.
The city council passed the new parking regulation on June 19, 2024. One of the key changes is the creation of a new pick-up and drop-off zone, marked with restricted stopping signs. This zone will be located in these streets to facilitate easy access for those who need it.
Parking spots for individuals with mobility impairments, delivery services, healthcare providers, and similar services will remain. However, the new regulations will eliminate 23 paid parking spots and their respective fees. This move is part of the city's plan to reduce the number of parking spaces along these streets.
To notify the public of the changed parking regulations, mobile informative signs will be placed at Drubbel and Bogenstraße. These signs will start appearing from September 22nd. The new parking regulations will be in effect starting the same day.
The city is also considering planting greenery and creating additional bike parking spots to promote environmentally friendly transportation options. After an adjustment period, the city of Münster will assess the new traffic rules based on local needs. They will also assess the impact of the new parking regulations on the quality of stay in Münster's old town.
A traffic restriction is already in place from Rothenburg for the Drubbel and Roggenmarkt areas. This restriction will remain in place under the new regulations.
The city encourages residents and visitors to familiarise themselves with the new parking regulations to ensure a smooth transition and to make the most of the improved quality of stay in Münster's old town.
