Kazakhstan's economy is on the upswing, as indicated by the 6.3% growth in gross domestic product (GDP) in the first seven months of 2025 compared to the same period last year. This growth is supported by several key sectors, including transport and construction, manufacturing, and services.

The manufacturing sector saw a growth of 6.1%, with significant contributions from machinery, food production, petroleum products, chemical industry products, and metallurgy. The wholesale and retail trade sector also experienced a notable growth of 8.6%, with notable increases in Kostanay (+17.6%), North Kazakhstan (+12%), and Astana (+9.2%).

The agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector, while not showing significant growth compared to other sectors, did see growth in livestock farming, with a 3.4% increase. This growth was driven by increases in milk production, the slaughter of cattle and poultry, and egg production.

The services sector grew by 5.2%, and the transportation and warehousing sector experienced a robust growth of 22.5%. The construction sector also saw a significant increase of 18.5%, with the Turkestan region leading the way (+34.6%), followed by Atyrau (+25.6%), Jambyl (+13.1%), and East Kazakhstan (+5.9%).

However, the precise current contribution of tourism to Kazakhstan's GDP relative to pre-pandemic levels is not explicitly reported. While visitor arrivals have increased substantially in 2025—supported by enhanced visa-free travel policies—the exact share of tourism in Kazakhstan's GDP compared to pre-pandemic figures is not yet clear.

Globally, tourism reached pre-pandemic levels contributing about 3% to GDP by 2023, indicating recovery trends that likely influence Kazakhstan too. As the tourism sector continues to recover, it is expected to play an increasingly important role in Kazakhstan's economy.

In the meantime, Kazakhstan's overall economy remains strong, with sectors like transport, construction, manufacturing, and services driving the growth. The country's economy is on a steady path to recovery and growth, positioning it well for the future.
