Eastbound VIA Rail trains bypassing eastern Ontario regions due to the implementation of non-stop Montreal to Toronto trains this fall
Starting on September 29, VIA Rail is set to launch a three-month pilot project for direct service on select Montreal-Toronto trains. This initiative aims to test passenger demand for faster, more efficient travel between the two largest cities in Canada.
Under the pilot project, trains 60, 61, 68, and 69 will bypass several stations in eastern Ontario, including Cornwall, Brockville, Kingston, Oshawa, Guildwood, and Dorval. Train 69 will depart Montreal at 4:39 p.m., while train 68 will depart Toronto at 5:08 p.m.
The current schedule indicates that train 50 stops in Kingston at 9:02 a.m., but during the pilot project, there will be reduced station stops on this train as well. Train 60 from Toronto will depart at 6:32 a.m., and train 61 from Montreal will depart at 6:45 a.m.
VIA Rail hopes that by offering non-stop trains, they can cement the train as the smarter choice over air and car travel. The non-stop trains in the pilot project may arrive 30 to 40 minutes earlier at their destination than previously scheduled.
It's important to note that all communities in eastern Ontario will continue to have access to VIA Rail services on other trains during the pilot project. Train 50 from Toronto to Ottawa, for example, will not stop in Belleville and Kingston, but other trains will still serve these communities.
The pilot project is a test of non-stop service between Montreal and Toronto. At the moment, there is no information available about who is responsible for the introduction of this pilot project by VIA Rail.
In conclusion, VIA Rail's three-month pilot project for direct service on select Montreal-Toronto trains is an exciting development for passengers looking for faster, more efficient travel options between Canada's two largest cities. Stay tuned for updates on this pilot project and its potential impact on travel between Montreal and Toronto.
