Earnings Differential Revealed in Kazakhstan: Comparison of Double Income Earners

In the second quarter of 2025, the average per capita cash income in Kazakhstan stood at 359,638 tenge, a slight decrease from the previous year's 330,386 tenge. The main source of income for Kazakhstanis remains labour activity, accounting for 75% of their total earnings.

Of the income from labour activity, 66.8% comes from employment, while 8.2% comes from self-employment and entrepreneurial activity. Pensions account for 17.8% of the population's cash incomes, scholarships account for 0.6%, and material assistance from relatives and acquaintances, alimony, accounts for 1.7%. Other incomes, including from property, account for 0.9%.

When it comes to expenditures, more than half (52.5%) goes towards food products. This is followed by non-food products, which account for 20.3%, and paid services, which account for 18.5%. Loan repayment and debt account for 6.5% of the population's expenditures, while taxes, payments, and other payments account for 0.2%. ASP (targeted social assistance) and housing assistance account for 0.1% of the population's cash incomes.

The regions in Kazakhstan with the highest average per capita incomes in the second quarter of 2025 include Almaty, where the average monthly income per capita is about 169,000 tenge, significantly higher than the national average. This is followed by Nursultan and Kаraгандинская область, with amounts of 500,780 tenge and 494,453 tenge respectively.

On the other hand, the lowest per capita quarterly income is in Туркестанской области (231,547 tenge), Shymkent (267,529 tenge), and Жамбыlской области (269,396 tenge). Expenditures are noticeably lower in these regions, with amounts of 200,505 tenge, 238,757 tenge, and 247,190 tenge respectively.

Looking ahead, by 2028, the average monthly wage of one employee in Kazakhstan should reach 604,963 tenge, an increase from 423,133 tenge in 2025. Residents of leading regions in Kazakhstan earn almost twice as much as those in regions with lower incomes.

In conclusion, while Kazakhstan's average income and expenditure levels have seen some changes, the country's economic landscape remains largely influenced by labour activity and food expenses. As the economy continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these trends develop in the coming years.
