Dutch Grid Operator TenneT Engages Akira Energy for Offshore Grid Assistance in the Netherlands
Got some juicy news about the Dutch offshore wind scene! TenneT, the country's social-club host and TSO (that's Transmission System Operator for the uninitiated), has signed a deal with their fellow countryman, Akira Energy. This agreement is all about 'Offshore Grid NL - Client Representative Services' in the great blue sea.
Here's the lowdown: Akira Energy will provide some offshore grid bigwigs to assist TenneT in managing their offshore grid projects in the Netherlands. This nifty collaboration will help TenneT rock the energy transition boat, focusing on sustainable wind power in the Dutch scene.
TenneT is like the big daddy of offshore grid infrastructure in the Netherlands. They're responsible for connecting those North Sea wind turbine farms to the mainland grid. They use standard connections of 700 MW alternating current and 2 GW direct current to bring eco-friendly electricity to the party.
Currently, the Dutch scene is generating 4.5 GW of wind power, with plans to ramp it up to a whopping 21 GW by 2032. That's a whole lot of clean energy to charge up the country! The Netherlandic government recently announced that they will be inviting bids for the Nederwiek I-A site in October 2025. Located 95 kilometers off Texel's west coast, this site is part of the larger Nederwiek Wind Farm Zone.
