Dresden's Königsbrücker Landstraße Expansion Approved for Better Foot, Cycle Traffic and Wider Trams

The Saxon State Directorate has given the green light to the expansion of Königsbrücker Landstraße in Dresden-Nord. The project, led by Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB), aims to improve foot and cycle traffic, accommodate wider trams, and enhance overall operation stability.

The first phase of the project will expand the road between Karl-Marx-Straße and Arkonastraße. This includes creating barrier-free stops and a 1.85-meter-wide cycle lane in the urban direction. The track gauge will also be increased to accommodate new, wider city trams. Additionally, the tram track will be extended to two tracks for more stable operation.

The 'Kaethe Kollwitz Platz' stop will be expanded barrier-free, featuring a raised cycle path. While 23 trees will be planted to compensate, three trees will be felled, and about 100 square meters of garden and shrub areas will be sealed. Traffic areas no longer needed will be unsealed to create more space.

This approval marks the beginning of the first construction phase, with DVB set to proceed with the expansion. The project promises improved foot and cycle traffic, wider tram access, and enhanced operational stability along the Königsbrücker Landstraße in Dresden-Nord.
