Doosan Heavy Wins $100M+ Deal for Korea's First IPP Ultrasupercritical Coal Plant
Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has secured a significant contract for the supply of steam turbines and generator systems. The deal, worth over 100 million, involves delivering two 600MW steam turbines and associated accessories for the Dongbu Green Power Plant 1&2 in South Korea. The project, slated for completion by 2024, is the first ultrasupercritical coal-fired power plant to be built by an Independent Power Producer (IPP) in South Korea.
The contract marks a substantial addition to our company's presence in South Korea's power industry. We have already contributed to nearly 15GW of the country's installed capacity, delivering over 20 gas turbines and supplying more than 50% of its installed boilers and hydro turbines. The Dongbu Green Power Plant 1&2, with a capacity of 1200 MW, will help meet South Korea's growing energy demands, projected to increase at a rate of 2.3% per year until 2030.
The ultrasupercritical technology employed in this project operates at higher temperatures than conventional coal-fired power plants. This results in improved efficiency and reduced emissions, particularly CO2 per unit of fuel burned. The turbines and generators will be manufactured in our production sites in Europe and China, with the contract set to be completed by 2016.
This contract, our company's largest steam turbine and generator order in South Korea, further solidifies our position as a key player in the country's power industry. The Dongbu Green Power Plant 1&2, the first of its kind by an IPP in South Korea, will contribute to the nation's energy needs while demonstrating our commitment to sustainable power solutions.
