DJI unveils 1,000W Turbo enhancement for Avinox motor, contradicting proposed 750W cap by German bike industry.
Update: DJI Bypasses Potential EU Legislation with Permanent 1,000W Turbo Mode for Avinox E-Bike Motor
In a move that potentially challenges EU motor industry regulations, DJI has unlocked permanent access to a peak power of 1,000W in Turbo mode for owners of its Avinox-equipped e-bikes.
High-Performance Power Update for DJI E-Bike Motors
DJI's latest firmware update enables full, unhindered 1,000W power in Turbo mode, a significant increase over the previous 850W limit. This update, available in the test flight beta mode 1.0.45 version 1.1.0, promises a 17.6% improvement in power. In addition to the increased power, the update offers more control over charging rates, the ability to adjust Boost mode duration, and new data display options.
A DJI spokesperson commented, "We're preparing to release a new firmware update in May, with specific details to be shared upon the official release."
Looming EU Regulations and the Race for Power
Last week, it was reported that German bike industry body Zweirad Industrie Verband (ZIV) had recommended restricting the peak power of electric power-assisted cycles (EPAC) to 750W. The proposed legislation aimed to preempt any potential harm to e-bike sales and to counter the influx of Chinese motors like Bafang and DJI, while protecting domestic brands such as Bosch, Brose, TQ, ZF, Mahle, and Fazua. If implemented, these regulations could pose a challenge to the Avinox motor's high power offering.
Nevertheless, DJI maintains its commitment to adhering to established EU guidelines and providing users with support in light of any regulatory changes that may impact their products.
Bosch's Upcoming Power Update?
Rumors suggest that Bosch is set to release an update for the Performance CX gen 5 motor that would increase peak power to 750W (up from 600W) and torque to 100Nm (up from 85Nm). However, these figures fall short of the Avinox's standard 850W and 105Nm, let alone the newly introduced 1,000w of the Turbo update. This proposed update from Bosch would comply with the proposed legislation if implemented, potentially leveling the playing field against the high-power Avinox motor.
In the midst of this power race, new bike brands have jumped on board with DJI, with Unno, Forbidden, Teewing, and Megamo launching Avinox-powered bikes alongside the Amflow PL Carbon. The momentum appears to be building for the drone brand in the e-bike market.
However, the ultimate legality and enforceability of the Avinox 1000W turbo boost within the EU remain unclear, given the proposed EU regulations favor a 750W peak power limit for e-bike motors. Final decisions on these regulations are expected by 2027. In the meantime, companies such as DJI and Bosch continue to innovate, unfolding the future of the e-bike industry.

In light of the proposed EU regulations limiting the peak power of electric power-assisted cycles to 750W, DJI's recent technology advancement in finance, the permanent 1,000W Turbo mode for Avinox e-bike motors, may face challenges.
On the other hand, Bosch's anticipated update for the Performance CX gen 5 motor, increasing peak power to 750W and torque to 100Nm, could potentially comply with the proposed regulations, providing a potential equalizer in the e-bike market.
