Disrupted Subway Service on the TTC Line between Sheppard-Yonge and College Stations Throughout Weekend Ahead
TTC Line 1 Service Interruption and Alternative Transport Options This Weekend
Toronto, May 24, 2025 — Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) announced that a portion of Line 1 will be closed this weekend due to track maintenance and state-of-good repair work. There will be no subway service between Sheppard-Yonge and College stations on Saturday and Sunday. Passengers are advised to utilize shuttle buses operating on the affected line, which will stop at each of the stations to ensure transit continuity.
According to TTC, the upcoming work encompasses the replacement of a significant track switch at York Mills Station, essential rail repairs, and geotechnical survey work. Lawrence and Summerhill stations will be temporarily closed to the public, while the other stations will stay open for customers to purchase transit fares, tickets, and access surface routes. Wheel-Trans buses will be available to accommodate passengers requiring accessibility support.
Several bus routes will be affected during the Walk with Israel on Sunday between 6 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The TTC has shared that 7 Bathurst, 96 Wilson, 160 Bathurst North, and 165 Weston Road North bus routes will be diverting.
On the other hand, GO Transit is modifying its Lakeshore West line service this weekend due to track work. GO trains will run every 30 minutes between Oakville and Union stations, while buses will serve stations between West Harbour and Oakville. Appleby and Bronte GO stations will not have any GO train service, but early morning and late-night route 18 GO buses will still operate for these stations. The Niagara train trips will be operating on an adjusted schedule between Niagara Falls and Aldershot.
Passengers are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and consult the respective transit websites or contact the TTC or GO Transit customer service for further information. Regular service for both TTC Line 1 and GO Lakeshore West is expected to resume Monday morning, May 26.
The announcement of track maintenance on TTC Line 1 this weekend will affect public-transit passengers, as they will need to find alternative transportation methods. Finance may be required for commuters using alternative transportation options like shuttle buses or Wheel-Trans buses, or when using surface routes or bus routes that are affected due to events such as the Walk with Israel or ongoing work on the GO Transit's Lakeshore West line.
