Discussion on transit arrangements prior to the construction of the new school in Moosach: BA concurs, but argues for enhancements

The upcoming opening of the Franz-Mader-Realschule in Moosach, Munich, is causing a flurry of discussions regarding traffic planning in the surrounding streets. The Building Authority (BA) has proposed several improvements to address potential issues, such as wider bike crossings over Allacher Straße and larger bike parking spaces.

The BA has also suggested extending the sidewalk and bike path in Irma-Wenke-Straße to the school campus, as well as installing new traffic lights, pedestrian, and bike crossings at the intersection of Allacher-/Franz-Mader-/Netzerstraße. These plans are aimed at encouraging active transportation and improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

However, a regular meeting a week earlier saw the district committee reject the initial submission from the Building Authority due to it coming too late. In response, an extraordinary meeting was held, and the administration informed the district committee that action needed to be taken to avoid losing funding.

The district committee of Moosach has agreed to the development plan for the Franz-Mader-Realschule, but with amendments. These likely include assessing current traffic flow and capacity on streets near the school site, ensuring public transportation accessibility, improving pedestrian and bicycle safety, implementing traffic calming measures, providing parking provisions and drop-off zones, and coordinating with long-term city transport plans.

The BA chairman, Wolfgang Kuhn (SPD), has also suggested that Franz-Mader-Straße should become a bike street. The opening of the new Realschule is dependent on the resolution of traffic issues in the surrounding streets, and the work for the suggested improvements is planned to take place from May to September 2026.

Angelika Bueb (CSU), chairwoman of the traffic subcommittee, announced that the BA will submit further improvements in 2025. The Building Authority has agreed to the plans for the expansion of roadway, sidewalks, and bike paths in Franz-Mader-Straße.

It is important to note that the nearby Hirschgarten station (serviced by S-Bahn lines such as S1, S2, and S8) might play a significant role in commuter routes for the school. For authoritative details on the traffic planning status for the new Realschule in Moosach, residents are encouraged to contact the local Munich city council planning departments or school project management offices.
