New and Improved Obituary

David Porter, a man known for his kindness and unwavering strength, left us on May 2, 2025. Born on October 19, 1957, in the heart of Victoria, Texas, David embarked on a journey filled with adventure and accomplishments. Growing up, David and his family, including parents Garland and Wanda, were nomads of sorts within the Lone Star State, following the oil and gas industry. Their journey led them to Lovington, New Mexico, where David attended high school and met the love of his life, Crystal.

Post-graduation from San Angelo High School in 1975 and a degree in accounting from Angelo State University, David became a CPA and securing a coveted position as the Director of Strategic Planning and Management at Enron Corporation in their Oil and Gas Department. He retired after a successful career.

David was a mentor, teaching financial savvy to his beloved daughter Katie. With a tranquil spirit, he guided Katie, pushing her to excel in both her personal and professional life. A man whose affection was genuine and rare, David always thought of others, sensing their needs and taking the time to make each person feel special.

Maggie, his cherished granddaughter, held a special place in David's heart. He and Crystal cherished the time they spent with her every Friday. Music, woven into the fabric of his life, was another passion that David shared with the world. Be it playing, listening, or singing along to his favorite tunes, music was a connection he forged with others and an expression of his soulful self.

Music was not the only thread that connected David with people. His 1969 Ford Bronco, which he meticulously rebuilt alongside his dear friend, Preston Geis, was a testament to his love for the open road and his friendship with Preston. Just speaking of his Bronco would bring a smile to David's face.

David's love for his family was boundless. He leaves behind his loving wife Crystal, daughter Katie, granddaughter Maggie, sisters Margo and Mindy, several nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and his beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Abbey.

Dr. Eugene Koshkin, of the University of New Mexico, provided compassionate care to David throughout his final days.

A celebration to remember David's life will be held on June 21, 2025, between 2:00-5:00 pm in Albuquerque, New Mexico. For more information, please contact Crystal. In lieu of flowers, honor David's memory and legacy by doing something kind for someone today, just as he did.
