Denmark's Upcoming Elections: Thousands of Foreign Nationals Eligible to Vote
Denmark's local and regional elections are approaching, with hundreds of thousands of foreign nationals eligible to participate. Voting takes place at the municipality where one's address is registered, with advance voting allowed. Voters receive a card stating their polling station and opening times at least five days before election day.
Foreign nationals can vote if they are legally resident in a Danish municipality. This includes citizens of EU countries, Iceland, Norway, and the UK, regardless of their length of stay. For non-EU citizens, a four-year residency is required.
Danish embassies and consulates facilitate voting from abroad, with votes sent by post. The elections, held every four years, determine representatives for the 98 municipalities and 5 regions, each with its own responsibilities.
With a diverse range of eligible voters, Denmark's upcoming elections reflect its commitment to inclusive democracy. Foreign nationals can play a significant role in shaping local and regional governance, regardless of their country of origin or citizenship status.
