These six lanes, stretching between Pforzheim-Nord and Pforzheim-Ost junctions, will be weaving through a grand 4.8 kilometers of the A8. To top it off, they've got plans to upgrade the B10 to four lanes, all in the name of improving traffic safety and noise reduction.

Two main culprits are responsible for this construction bump in the road. Christine Baur-Fewson, the director of Southwest division, spills the tea. First up, it turns out that a tinkering in the approach for demolishing the old Enz bridge and its surrounding traffic management couldn't wait until 2023. Second, they unearthed some watery nightmares in the Karlsruhe slope that weren't caught in the preliminary inspections, leading to some required stabilization.

Get your pockets ready. The new A8 will be dining on earth, air, and water just a bit differently. According to Baur-Fewson, the route will be placated up to 13 meters below and a whopping 5 meters above the previous ground level. As a consequence, they're reworking their expenditure estimates, with approximations floating around 340 million euros.

It's nothing new for this colossal project, which kicked off in 2018. Construction delays due to tenders galore and a nosebleed-inducing increase in costs, from the original 150 million to a hefty sum of 340 million euros, have plagued the Enztal crossing for years.
