Dallas Deputies Sue Over Unpaid Overtime and Denied Time Off
Deputies from the Dallas Sheriff's Office have filed a lawsuit alleging they were not paid for hours worked over several years. The issue has been ongoing despite the implementation of new payroll software in 2023.
The lawsuit, filed on Oct. 3, claims that deputies were not compensated for overtime hours, leading to significant financial losses. Tina Allman, one of the plaintiffs, is owed around $20,000. The deputies also allege that they were not granted time off, violating fair labor laws, and that vacation requests were denied.
Plaintiffs' attorney George Hyde, a retired police officer, is advocating for the law enforcement officers to receive their earned pay. He stated, 'These deputies have worked hard and deserve to be compensated for their efforts.'
The Dallas County Commissioners Court, responsible for the financial maintenance and salary of the Dallas Sheriff's Office, has not commented on the pending case. However, the court recently hired a chief financial officer, Dana Foster-Allen, to address payroll issues. Sheriff's Association president Senior Sergeant Christopher Dyer has held the county commissioners accountable for paying the owed wages.
The deputies' lawsuit seeks back pay, damages, and other relief. The case is ongoing, and a resolution is yet to be determined. The Dallas County Sheriff's Office and the Commissioners Court have not yet provided a public statement on the matter.
