Customs Raid Nets 9 Arrests in Hesse's Restaurant Sweep
Customs officers across Hesse conducted a large-scale employment inspection, focusing on restaurants and kitchens. Over 130 workplaces were checked, leading to the arrest of nine individuals found working without necessary permits.
The inspections, supported by local tax offices and investigators, spanned four areas in Hesse. In Limburg-Weilburg, two Albanians were discovered working illegally in kitchens. In Friedberg, a Pakistani was arrested for the same offence. Around Kassel, three more cases were uncovered, involving a Turk, an Indian, and another Pakistani working without permits.
The Main Customs Office Gießen led the nationwide focus action, inspecting 38 establishments in North, East, and Central Hesse. In Gießen itself, a Pakistani and an Indian were found working without permits. Initial irregularities included suspected underpayment of minimum wage, missing social security notifications, fraud, and various notification violations.
The inspections, aimed at detecting illegal employment, fraud, and violations of minimum wage regulations, resulted in the arrest of nine individuals. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against them. The customs offices involved in the inspections included Gießen and other regional offices, with support from local tax authorities.
