Customs Office Open Day in Schweinfurt: Uncovering Black Market Activities, Underground Employment, and Tax Evasion on July 26, 2025
The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt, the regional customs office for Lower and Upper Franconia, has announced an Open House event on July 26, 2025, inviting the public to learn more about the customs services. The event will take place from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Schweinfurt customs office located at Londonstraße 24.
During the Open House event, visitors can engage in conversation with employees, learn about the daily work of the customs service, and actively participate in various activities. The event will feature information booths on topics ranging from tax collection to customs duties, import and export clearance of goods, traffic and consumption taxes, sanctions in foreign trade, species protection, smuggling and black work prevention, and the prosecution of crimes and offenses.
Special presentations of customs dogs will take place at 11:00 and 14:00. Additionally, demonstrations of various control situations in different areas of enforcement will be featured. The training and employment counseling service will provide information about the requirements for employment, the course of training, and the dual study program at the customs service.
In 2024, the control units of the Schweinfurt customs office determined a total damage of over 14 million euros due to black work and illegal employment. Consequently, fines totaling nearly 825,000 euros, penalties of 1.3 million euros, and a total of over 51 years of imprisonment were imposed. The customs office also seized nearly 400,000 smuggled cigarettes.
The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt collected around 1.7 billion euros for the federal budget in 2024. The office employs more than 700 staff and has branch offices in Bamberg, Kitzingen, and further customs offices in Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Bayreuth, Coburg, Dettelbach-Mainfrankenpark, and Schweinfurt. The customs district covered by the Main Customs Office includes the entire district of Lower Franconia and almost the entire district of Upper Franconia.
The Federal Customs Administration secures the commonwealth, promotes the economic hub of Germany, contributes to the stability of social systems, and ensures safety and economic fairness. Food and play opportunities will be available on site for visitors.
