Customs Office Inspects Catering and Hotel Industry, Finds 6 Illegal Residence Cases
The Main Customs Office Kiel's Financial Control of Illegal Work (FKS) conducted inspections in the catering and hotel industry across multiple cities on September 19, 2025. The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with minimum wage and social security obligations, and to investigate illegal employment or improper receipt of social security benefits.
A total of 27 employers and 151 employees were interviewed during the inspections. Six cases suspected of illegal residence were found, with one also suspected of document fraud. The data collected from employees will be compared with company records, and further business documents will be checked. Regular inspections by the FKS are important in the hotel and catering industry due to its typical features and frequent irregularities. The customs office works closely with other authorities and social security to combat black work and illegal employment, helping to secure social security systems, state revenues, and fair working conditions.
The inspections resulted in six suspected cases of illegal residence, with one also suspected of document fraud. The collected data will be analysed and compared with company records. The fight against illegal employment and social security fraud is ongoing, with regular inspections in particularly affected branches. The results of these inspections are not publicly disclosed to protect the privacy of those involved.
