Customs Audit in Brandenburg Finds 34 Minimum Wage Compliance Cases
Last Thursday, the Main Customs Office Potsdam led a special audit in Brandenburg, focusing on minimum wage compliance. The audit targeted various businesses across the region.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with other authorities, concentrated on barbershops in Potsdam. Elsewhere in Brandenburg, catering, accommodation, beverage retail, agriculture, laundries, and cleaning companies were also inspected.
The audit uncovered 34 cases requiring further action. These primarily involved employers not paying the minimum wage, evading contributions, fraudulent reporting, and illegally employing foreign workers. The minimum wage in Germany is currently 12.41 euros gross per hour, set to rise to 12.82 euros from 2025.
A total of 56 employees from Financial Control Schwarzarbeit and 12 from cooperating authorities conducted the inspections, checking 115 individuals and performing two business record checks.
The audit, led by the Main Customs Office Potsdam, has highlighted potential issues with minimum wage compliance in Brandenburg. Further investigations are underway for 34 cases, with employers facing possible penalties. The operation underscores the authorities' commitment to ensuring fair wages and preventing labour law violations.
