In a classic case of passed promises and shuffled priorities, the power tax cut for private households has been scrapped, leaving small businesses and low-income families in the dust. Economist Kemfert isn't holding back, blasting the decision as "socially unjust" and a massive roadblock to the energy transition.
The Power Tax Fiasco
As it stands, large corporations will reap the benefits of the unfulfilled tax relief, with private households bearing the brunt. Kemfert aptly refers to this gaping disparity as "highly problematic." On average, private households shell out approximately 70 to 90 euros per year in power tax, while industrial giants only cough up a fraction of that.
"The federal government's misguided priorities have small businesses and low-income families falling further behind," Kemfert exclaims.
Energy Equality Under Threat
Another hits to the energy-conscious citizen comes in the form of heat pumps and electric vehicles, which remain economically inaccessible for many due to Lucas' comments on power taxes. Households stuck with outdated, fossil fuel-dependent systems are left paying an unjust energy price.
Fighting for Fairness
"German industry is already over-subsidized," Kemfert cries, emphasizing the triple injustice faced by the average consumer: subsidizing corporations through higher electricity prices, supporting them with taxpayer money, and burdening smaller companies.
