Construction of Weyerstraße's Single-Lane Infrastructure Scheduled to Complete by Late August

In the city of Solingen, there are some changes coming to the public transportation system and road infrastructure starting from August 4, 2021. Here's what you need to know.

Road Renovation

From August 4, construction work will commence on Weyerstraße, between Caspersbroicher Weg and Monhofer Straße. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the summer holidays, provided good weather conditions persist. During this period, the street section will be under renovation, with a new road surface, two new barrier-free crossings, and the expansion of an existing traffic island.

To accommodate the construction, the street section of Weyerstraße between Ohligs and Wald will become a one-way street. Additionally, the curb will be adjusted in some areas to better accommodate cyclists during the renovation. After the work is completed, a bike lane with a dashed line will be marked in the direction of Ohligs.

Bus Service Rerouting

Due to the construction zones, bus routes heading in the direction of Ohligs will be rerouted. Specific stops on the typical path to Ohligs may not be served, and alternative stops will be indicated along the detour routes. Passengers are advised to check updated schedules and plans before traveling.

Bus lines 682 and NE22 will follow the route of line 681 to the main station after the regular stop at Röntgenstraße. This means they will turn right at the traffic light onto Bebelallee and serve the Humboldtschule stop (stop for line 693). The stops Kronprinz, Schleifersberg, Kullen, and Rennpatt on the regular route towards the main station will continue to be omitted.

Opposing traffic in the direction of Ohligs will be rerouted via Bebelallee, Merscheider Straße, Kamper Straße, Zweibrücker Straße, Wilhelmstraße, and Bahnstraße to Kasparstraße.

Stay Informed

For detailed maps and instructions for affected bus lines during construction works, it is recommended to check the local transit agency's announcements or notices for that period. A protected bike lane with a solid line will be marked in the direction of Wald after the renovation, and it must not be driven over.

These changes are set to take place from August 4 to August 26, 2021, due to the construction work affecting the usual route toward Ohligs. Passengers and road users are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and stay informed about the detours and affected stops.

  1. The changes in Solingen's public transportation system and road infrastructure, including the construction on Weyerstraße, will impact the finance industry as commuters may face increased travel times or route changes, potentially affecting their productivity and business expenses.
  2. The transformation in Solingen's transportation system, particularly the rerouting of bus lines 682, NE22, and probably other lines, may have implications for the industry sector that relies on timely transportation of goods, as the new bus routes may potentially disrupt their logistics operations.
