Construction of the road linking Ludweiler and Werbeln to be fully blocked starting from July 30, 2025.
From July 30 to August 8, 2025, the State Road Authority (LfS) will perform extensive repairs on State Road L 280 between Ludweiler and Werbeln. The aim of these works is to permanently repair the road surface, improve traffic safety, and prevent future damage.
Road Repair Works Overview
The repair works will cover a section approximately 1.25 kilometers long and include resurfacing, pothole filling, drainage improvements, and signage updates. During the entire repair period, the road section will be closed to through traffic, with local access for residents and emergency services maintained as much as possible. Heavy vehicles will not be permitted on the closed section.
Traffic Restrictions
Traffic will be rerouted during the construction work. For traffic from Ludweiler to Werbeln and vice versa, the detour route includes State Road L 279 from Ludweiler towards B 269, then following B 269 to the intersection with L 277 heading towards Werbeln. This detour adds approximately 10-15 minutes depending on traffic.
For north-south transit traffic, alternatives include using the highway B 41 or B 51 as major routes to bypass the closed section. Local traffic can use parallel village roads such as Feldstraße and Waldweg, but expect possible narrow lanes or limited passing points. Cyclists and pedestrians may use designated paths along the construction area, with signage provided for safe crossing points.
Traffic Safety Measures
Advanced warning signs will be placed at least 2 km before closure points, and temporary speed limits will be reduced to 30 km/h in and around the construction zones. Traffic controllers and flaggers will be stationed at critical intersections and detour junctions. Barrier fencing and lighting will be installed along construction areas for nighttime visibility. Regular updates will be provided to road users through local radio and traffic information systems.
Recommendations for Road Users
The LfS advises drivers to understand the restrictions and plan for extra travel time. It is recommended to follow all posted signs and instructions from traffic controllers. Avoid using the L 280 construction section unless access is essential. Consider using public transport options if available during the repair period.
The State Road Authority suggests monitoring current traffic reports on the radio during the repair works on State Road L 280. It is also recommended to consider alternative routes if possible during the repair works.
The official detour route leads from Werbeln via L 168 to Wadgassen, then on L 271 through Hostenbach and Schaffhausen to Volklingen-Wehrden. The opposite direction of the detour route will be reversed accordingly. The parking lot along the L 280 cemetery access road will remain inaccessible during the repair works.
The repair works on State Road L 280 are part of the LfS's continuous efforts to maintain the road infrastructure in Saarland. The aim is to ensure the long-term durability and safety of the road, providing a smoother and safer journey for all road users.
The repair works on State Road L 280 will not only focus on resurfacing and pothole filling, but also involve industry-level finance for the comprehensive project, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the road surface. To minimize disruptions to traffic safety and transportation, responsible agencies are actively coordinating for detour routes and traffic control, such as using alternative routes like the B 41 or B 51 for north-south transit traffic.
