In the heart of Hesse, the city of Seligenstadt is undertaking a significant renovation project on a damaged section of its Main cycle path. The work, scheduled to commence on the 10th of February, will aim to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

The affected area, between Mainring and Schleifbach bridge, has been plagued by numerous issues such as rockfalls, potholes, deformations, and cracks. To rectify these problems, the city has planned a comprehensive renovation.

The construction work involves the laying of a 4 cm thick asphalt surface layer, a 10 cm asphalt base layer, and a further 10 cm thick gravel base layer for stabilization. This meticulous approach is designed to ensure the path's longevity and safety.

Recognizing the importance of minimizing disruptions, the city, in consultation with the construction company, made the decision to schedule the work during the winter period. This strategic move aims to avoid disrupting cycling and pedestrian traffic during the summer months.

The newly built section will measure 300 meters long and will be between 2.20 and 3.20 meters wide. In addition to the path renovation, street lighting will also be modernized during the construction work.

Mayor Dr. Daniell Bastian expressed his hope that the work will progress quickly, provided the weather conditions allow it. He also highlighted that only certain parts of the path will be widened, not the entire length.

In areas with private properties on the south side and an old tree stand on the north side, only the asphalt surface will be renewed without interfering with the deeper soil layers. Felling the trees in the area with the old tree stand is not planned.

The project is expected to cost around 290,500 euros, with most of the funding coming from Hessen Mobil's traffic infrastructure promotion. The construction work on the Main cycle path in Seligenstadt was awarded in the autumn of 2024 following a public tender.

For precise project details, funding sources, or construction schedules, local municipal websites or regional transport authority announcements would be the most authoritative sources. In the process of managing financial resources, the city council of Seligenstadt secured funds for the project from Hessen Mobil's traffic infrastructure promotion, which is a part of the regional transport industry. To minimize the impact on other modes of transportation, the work is scheduled during the winter, intending to avoid disruptions for cyclists and pedestrians during the summer.
