Comprehensive £30m renovation confirmed for low-cost housing development in Lancaster
In a significant move towards the revitalisation of Lancaster's Canal Quarter, the Lancaster City Council has appointed Eric Wright Construction as the contractor for the Justin Fields project. This decision, according to the council's deputy leader, Caroline Jackson, marks a significant milestone in the plan to breathe new life into the Canal Quarter area.
Under the three-year contract, Eric Wright Construction will deliver over 100 new affordable homes at the Justin Fields site, which is the first phase of the regeneration of the Canal Quarter area. The project, overseen by Anderton Gables as the retained consultant project manager, involves the construction of 139 homes in total.
Eric Wright Construction has a long-standing relationship with the Lancaster area, having previously delivered projects such as the Caton Court and the Luneside student accommodation. The company's commitment to sustainable and green buildings is evident in their plans for the Justin Fields project, where they aim to utilise their knowledge of Passivhaus principles developed on previous schemes.
The Justin Fields project is part of a larger regeneration plan for the Canal Quarter area, which is expected to provide a total of 580 homes. In addition to residential properties, the regeneration will also offer more than 75,000 square feet of commercial space and the creation of two public squares.
PRP, a renowned architectural firm, has been appointed for the Justin Fields project. The council's housing team is leading the project, which is a significant step forward in making the ambitious housing vision a reality. The regeneration of the Canal Quarter area aims to address the need for affordable housing in the area, as outlined in the Canal Quarter masterplan.
The selection of Eric Wright Construction for the Justin Fields project is a major step forward in the plan to revitalize the Canal Quarter area. The company's expertise and commitment to sustainable construction practices make them an ideal choice for this project, which is set to transform the area and provide much-needed housing and commercial spaces.
