In a strategic move to unify its editorial operations and meet the evolving demands of business journalism, CNBC has appointed David Cho as its new Editor-in-Chief. This appointment comes as the network prepares to be spun off into a new company called Versant, alongside other NBCUniversal cable assets.

Cho, an accomplished journalist and business editor, brings a strong track record of strategic leadership to the role. He has previously served as the Editor-in-Chief of *Barron's* and head of editorial content for Dow Jones Wealth and Investing, managing publications like *MarketWatch* and *Investor’s Business Daily*. Before that, Cho was the business editor at *The Washington Post*, where he led significant digital expansions and audience growth.

KC Sullivan, president of CNBC, stated that Cho's appointment is an important evolution for the outlet. Sullivan noted that Cho's mission is to break down any silos between CNBC's TV and online editorial operations and unify editorial efforts across every CNBC platform, including linear, digital, and direct-to-consumer.

David Cho will be taking over from Dan Colarusso and Jay Yarow, who have held the top editorial roles at CNBC since 2019 and 2016 respectively. Colarusso, who has had stints at Reuters and Bloomberg, has been instrumental in shaping CNBC's focus towards content for stocks-and-bonds die-hards, while Yarow, who was previously the executive editor at Business Insider, has overseen the creation of new "verticals" such as wealth, women's leadership, and the business of sports.

In line with Cho's appointment, CNBC has also launched a streaming product and assigned a top producer to oversee its creation. Under Cho's leadership, CNBC aims to continue elevating the trust and clarity of its essential content.

According to market-research firm Kagan, CNBC's ad dollars are projected to fall 6.5% in 2025, with gross advertising revenue estimated to be $197.5 million compared to $211.4 million in 2024. Despite this projected decline, Cho's appointment is seen as a significant step towards ensuring CNBC's continued success in the competitive world of business journalism.

Cho will begin his role on August 11, 2025. With his extensive experience and proven ability to lead, Cho is poised to guide CNBC's newsroom through the challenges and opportunities of the future.
