Cineverse and Banyan Ventures to Unveil a New Venture Named MicroCo
In a groundbreaking move, the new joint venture MicroCo, a 50/50 partnership between Cineverse and Banyan Ventures, is set to revolutionize the short-form content landscape. MicroCo aims to produce high-quality, serialized microseries specifically designed for a mobile-first audience, with episodes running approximately 1 to 3 minutes each.
The venture, projected to reach a staggering $10 billion market by 2027 outside of China, will leverage advanced AI technology and Cineverse's Matchpoint™ streaming tech and vast content library. This strategic alliance will enable creators, optimize discovery, and diversify revenue, targeting genres such as romance, horror, and animation.
At the helm of MicroCo is Jana Winograde, who takes on the role of CEO, leading the overall operation. Winograde, a former President of Entertainment for Showtime Networks, brings a wealth of experience in strategic execution and content creation to the table.
Joining MicroCo in October 2025 is Susan Rovner, who takes on the role of Chief Content Officer. Rovner, a veteran studio and network executive, boasts an impressive resume, having overseen more than 18 series that reached the 100-episode milestone. Rovner will continue to lead her production banner, AHA Studios, alongside her role at MicroCo.
The MicroCo leadership team also includes Lloyd Braun, a co-founder of Prologue Entertainment and former ABC Entertainment Group and WME Chairman. Braun brings a history of producing iconic television series to the table.
Erick Opeka, a pioneer in streaming and digital entertainment, responsible for launching multiple streaming channels and the successful unrated film Terrifier 3, is also part of the MicroCo team.
MicroCo positions itself as both a studio and an AI-native platform, aiming to be the premier U.S.-based home for mobile microseries content, building on the proven success of microdramas that have already generated over $7 billion in China. The consumer-facing name of the platform will be announced at a later date.
The content delivered through MicroCo's AI-native platform is designed to foster and engage passionate fan communities. MicroCo will draw on Cineverse's streaming services, which reach 150 million users, to expand its reach.
With MicroCo, the future of short-form content is looking brighter than ever, promising a blend of storytelling rigor from series television with the pace and intimacy of short-form content. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting venture.
