Chemnitz City Council Approves Garage Parking Cost Increase

Chemnitz city council has approved a rise in ancillary costs surcharge for garage parking spaces on city-owned properties. The increase, retroactive to January 1, 2025, is an annual 35 euros per space, adding 15 euros on average per year and space. This move aims to compensate for increased regular expenses since 2017 and the impacts of the 2025 IRS tax reform.

The city planning and real estate department has informed garage community heads about this decision. The responsibility for future adjustments lies with the city of Chemnitz. Individual users will also be notified, and the city will negotiate contract amendments with all contracting partners. From 2025, garage users will no longer pay separate property tax, with these amounts now collected through the surcharge. The municipal council or administrative body is expected to handle negotiations on appropriate contract changes regarding the increase in garage ancillary costs.
