CEO of publicly traded consultancy company Gateley to resign.
In a significant move, professional services group Gateley has announced that John Paton will be joining the company as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective from 1st May 2026. Current CFO, Neil Smith, will be stepping down from his position on the same date, after 17 years with the company, including serving as CFO since its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2015.
John Paton, a seasoned capital markets CFO with significant experience in high growth professional services businesses, most recently served as CFO at Alpha Financial Markets Consulting for seven years. Prior to that, he spent 11 years at HSBC Bank plc, holding roles in corporate capital origination and UK mid-market M&A advisory teams. Paton also spent seven years at KPMG, working in audit, corporate finance advisory, and risk management consulting.
Edward Knapp, chair of Gateley, expressed his delight at Paton's upcoming arrival, stating, "We are thrilled to have John joining us in January. His extensive experience in the financial sector will be a valuable asset to Gateley as we continue to support the group's growth and transformation."
Rod Waldie, CEO of Gateley, also expressed his gratitude for Neil Smith's service and contribution to the group's success. "Neil has been a friend and highly valued colleague to me, and I want to thank him for his exceptional service and significant contribution to Gateley's growth and transformation. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
Smith, in his farewell message, expressed his gratitude for his career with Gateley and thanks the teams he's worked with. "It has been an absolute privilege to work with such a talented and dedicated team at Gateley. I am grateful for the opportunities I've had and the friendships I've made. I look forward to watching the company's continued success."
During the formal transition period, Smith will remain with Gateley to focus on a range of projects supporting the group's growth strategy. The company has not yet announced who will replace John Paton as CFO on May 1, 2026.
In other news, Microsoft has announced a $30bn investment in the UK to power its AI future, but this is not directly related to Gateley. Additionally, J.P. Morgan Private Bank has been confirmed as a Northern Leaders sponsor, but no specific details about the sponsorship are provided.
This change in leadership at Gateley marks an exciting time for the company, as it continues to grow and transform in the professional services sector.
