Businessman Sentenced for Wage Offences in Courier Sector
A business owner in the courier and vehicle services sector has been sentenced to one year and six months imprisonment for wage-related offences. The verdict, handed down by a court in Landshut, is final and the sentence was suspended on probation. The business owner, who was not named, underreported the working hours of 25 employees. He failed to pay for travel time to and from loading points, and loading time itself. To further reduce costs, he recorded daytime working hours as night shifts, allowing him to pay out tax- and contribution-free night supplements. Over a period of five years, the business owner's actions resulted in damages of over 106,000 euros to contribution collection agencies. He also falsified hours worked, leading to fewer hours being accounted for and fewer social security contributions being made in 208 cases. The business owner's actions have been deemed serious enough to warrant a prison sentence. The court's decision sends a clear message that such offences will not be tolerated. The exact impact on the affected employees and the industry as a whole remains to be seen.
