Businessman Convicted for Wage Theft and Tax Evasion in Landkreis Börde

A 52-year-old businessman from Landkreis Börde in the construction industry has been convicted for wage theft and tax evasion. The defendant admitted his guilt in court.

The businessman, who remains unnamed, was found to have withheld and misappropriated wages in 19 separate cases. An audit of his business records revealed that several workers he claimed were self-employed were actually dependent employees, resulting in a social security loss of over €20,000 over a period of more than a year.

The 'sham self-employed' workers were not registered for social security and no service contracts were concluded. They worked under the businessman's instructions, effectively being employees in disguise.

The businessman was fined a total of 50 daily rates of €35, amounting to €1,750. The judgment has been legally binding since December 12, 2024.
