Bulgarian businesses call for stronger collaborations on our platform
A significant business networking event took place at the Trakia Economic Zone (TEZ) headquarters in Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second-largest city, aimed at fostering trade ties, investment opportunities, and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria[1][2][3].
Organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Bulgaria and Plovdiv branch of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI–Plovdiv), the event brought together representatives from 20 Bulgarian and 10 Vietnamese companies, including the Vietnamese Ambassador to Bulgaria, Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, BCCI–Plovdiv President Simeon Tonev, and TEZ CEO Plamen Panchev[1].
The purpose of the event was to support Vietnamese businesses in accessing the Bulgarian market, foster stronger trade partnerships, and encourage investment projects that will reinforce the Vietnam–Bulgaria comprehensive partnership[1].
Trade and economic cooperation highlights included Plovdiv’s strong economic performance, with an annual GDP growth rate of over 5 per cent, unemployment below 3.5 per cent, and an average per capita income exceeding 10,000 EUR (about 11,500 USD). BCCI–Plovdiv emphasised its readiness to serve as a bridge for long-term business collaboration and cooperation between Vietnamese and Bulgarian enterprises[1].
Investment opportunities were also highlighted, with the Trakia Economic Zone being presented as a strategic location for investment, offering infrastructure supportive of manufacturing and logistics. Participants were encouraged to turn networking opportunities into real trade deals and investment projects, expanding bilateral economic cooperation and business exchanges[1].
TEZ CEO Plamen Panchev underlined TEZ’s emphasis on innovation and mentioned a recent international forum attended by the European Commission and regional firms. He also highlighted TEZ’s position as one of Bulgaria’s largest industrial hubs, home to more than 300 companies and 70,000 employees[4].
During discussions, Vietnamese companies raised questions related to innovation, incentives, and training opportunities. TEZ expressed interest in partnering with Vietnamese innovation centres and co-developing vocational training programs with Vietnamese universities[1].
The event concluded with B2B meetings between Vietnamese and Bulgarian firms, exploring collaboration across agriculture, pharmaceuticals, high-tech industries, and workforce development. The event was viewed by participants as a practical and forward-looking initiative that marked a meaningful step towards enhancing trade and economic relations between Vietnam and Bulgaria, particularly in high-potential regions like Plovdiv[1][3][4].
Before the event, the Bulgarian government expressed full support for the Vietnamese delegation. TEZ also expressed keen interest in building on existing collaborations with Plovdiv University and Plovdiv Technical University, highlighting the city's strength in education, with over 30,000 students forming a skilled talent pool across sectors such as technology, agriculture, and healthcare[1].
The event's purpose, as expressed by the Vietnamese Ambassador, was to lead to tangible business deals and long-term investment projects, reinforcing the comprehensive partnership between the two countries[2].
This networking event represents an important milestone in deepening Vietnam–Bulgaria trade ties and creating a foundation for expanding economic cooperation, especially in sectors like technology, agriculture, and healthcare, benefiting from Plovdiv’s economic environment and skilled workforce[1][3][4].
