Brookdale Senior Living's Occupancy Rates Surge in Q3 and September 2021
Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE:BKD) has reported a significant increase in occupancy rates, marking a strong performance in the third quarter and September 2021. The company's weighted average occupancy rose to 82.7%, with a notable increase in September to 82.5%.
Brookdale's third quarter weighted average consolidated occupancy saw a substantial year-over-year and sequential increase, reaching 81.8%. This positive trend continued into September, with a month-end consolidated occupancy of 83.8%, up 60 basis points from the previous month.
The same community occupancy also demonstrated robust growth, with a third quarter weighted average of 82.3%, up 260 basis points year-over-year and 150 basis points sequentially. This figure further improved to 84.0% by the end of September, marking a 30 basis points increase from the prior month.
During this period, Brookdale did not appoint a new CEO in September 2021. Cindy Baier stepped down in April 2025, and Nick Stengle was appointed as the new CEO, effective October 6, 2025.
Brookdale Senior Living's occupancy rates have shown remarkable improvement, with significant increases in both the third quarter and September 2021. The company's strong performance is a positive indicator for the senior living sector.
