BIM Gains Traction in Construction, 20% of Companies Experienced

BIM (Building Information Modelling) is gaining traction in the construction industry, with 20% of companies having experience with it. Drees & Sommer SE's BIM-Monitor 2022/23: Trends und Entwicklung study reveals that every fifth company now works on projects using BIM, with an average share of BIM projects in turnover reaching 31.8%.

BIM bundles all relevant information in a digital model, making information accessible to all stakeholders. This transparency aids in avoiding delays and increased costs by identifying design collisions early. The top reasons for implementing BIM are customer demand (36%), remaining competitive (30%), and optimizing internal processes (30%).

However, the road to BIM adoption isn't smooth. Main obstacles include the investment required and the complexity leading to increased training needs. Reflecting this, 32% of construction actors need training from manufacturers on BIM usage. Despite challenges, 41.5% of BIM projects are accompanied by a 'digital twin' in the construction process. This shows a growing integration of digital technologies in the industry.

BIM's main advantages are increased efficiency, cooperation, and project quality. With 32% of current non-BIM users ready to introduce the method if clients demand it, the future of BIM in construction looks promising. As the industry continues to evolve, understanding and embracing BIM will likely become crucial for success.
