Bergisch Gladbach Opens First Bike Lanes, Boosting Cycling Network
Bergisch Gladbach has opened its first bike lanes on Hasenweg and Nachtigallenstraße, marking a significant step in expanding its cycling network. The city aims to make cycling more appealing, safer, and efficient in the coming years.
The new bike lanes form part of the F2 route, set to become a crucial link in the city's cycling infrastructure. Cycling on this route is already high and expected to rise with the new lanes' opening. Motorists are urged to adapt to cyclists and share the lane responsibly.
Cyclists must dismount and push their bicycles through tunnels and near platform edges for safety. Signage at stations reminds users of this rule to prevent accidents. All road users on the bike lane have priority at intersections, and bicycles may ride side by side. The maximum speed limit is 30 km/h for everyone.
The city's first deputy mayor, Ragnar Migenda, hailed the opening of the bike lanes. He stressed their importance in promoting modern mobility and combating climate change. Motorists and cyclists alike are encouraged to respect each other and follow the rules to ensure safe and enjoyable cycling experiences.
