China Slams America's Betrayal in Ongoing Trade War
Beijing intensifies its assault on Trump in the customs dispute
Tensions in the U.S.-China trade feud have escalated once more. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has criticized the U.S., claiming they've broken the provisional agreement reached in Geneva last month. In contrast, Beijing is allegedly sticking to the terms of the deal.
In the heated trade battle, both nations are hurling new allegations. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce firmly denies any breach of the Geneva agreement. Instead, they accuse the U.S. of shirking its obligations. The Ministry declares measures to guard Chinese interests in the statement.
According to the Ministry's statement, the U.S. has persistently introduced fresh discriminatory restrictions against China post the Geneva negotiations. Notably, these restrictions target AI chip sales and chip design software to the People's Republic. China also berates the American announcement to revoke the residency permits of Chinese students in the U.S. The Ministry sums it up, asserting that the U.S. is falsely casting blame on China without re-examining its own actions.
"Mr. Nice Guy" Fuming Over Broken Promises
The U.S. and China reached a tentative consensus in mid-May under the promise of reduced mutual tariffs. The agreement was initially aimed at lasting for 90 days. The deal proposed a reduction of U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports from 145 to 30 percent, while the surcharges China imposed on U.S. imports were slashed from 125 to 10 percent.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed that opening China's economy was his most significant ambition. China consented to this. Lately, Trump has resumed his hostile stance towards China, stating, "The disappointing news is that China, as some may not be surprised, has completely reneged on its agreement with us." He made this remark on his online platform Truth Social on Friday. "So much for being 'Mr. Nice Guy'!"
Trade Disputes Still Ignite Flames
It's unclear which provisions China has violated, as Trump failed to elaborate. Reports suggest that the U.S. government is irked because China has lowered tariffs as per the deal, but other trade barriers like export restrictions on rare earths remain intact.
Trump hinted at solving the problem through direct communication with Chinese President Xi Jinping, stating, "We hope to find a resolution." However, there was no initial confirmation from Beijing regarding such a dialogue.
