Becamex Proposes $11.7B Rail Projects to Boost Vietnam's Green Logistics

The Becamex Group has proposed a significant cai in Vietnam's southern regions, planning and financing two major railway projects. These projects aim to create a modern, green logistics network, connecting Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and key industrial areas like Bau Bang and Cai Mep.

The first project, the HCMC-Can Tho line, will span 174 km with a designed speed of 200 km/h for passengers and 160 km/h for freight. Phase 1 of this project requires an investment of over VND173.6 trillion ($6.58 billion).

The second line, Bau Bang-An Binh-Cai Mep, is 127 km long with a designed speed of 160 km/h for passengers and 120 km/h for freight. The estimated investment for this project is VND153 trillion ($5.11 billion).

Becamex chairman and CEO Nguyen Van Hung stressed the interconnectivity of these two lines, envisioning an integrated, modern rail network. The initiative has received strong support from the HCMC People's Committee, with Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc highlighting the strategic value of the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port.

Once operational, these railways are expected to save the region an estimated $2.2 billion annually in logistics costs. They will position Ho Chi Minh City and the southern regions as a green, smart, and sustainable transport hub, facilitating economic growth and reducing environmental impact.
