Bathroom head of Bremen is dismissed from position

Bremer Bäder Gesellschaft's CEO, Martina Baden, has announced her resignation, effective from October 1st. The decision was made in consultation with the supervisory board and the city's finance senator.

As interim measures, Frank Fischer and Uwe Siefke, the current heads of finance and technology, will take over management duties.

Criticism of Bremer Bäder Gesellschaft's leadership has been recurrent in the past, and Olaf Bull, the supervisory board chairman, has emphasized the need for urgent reorganization to tackle strategic challenges. These include initiatives like early water familiarity programs for students, climate-neutral renewal of existing pools, strengthening ties with swimming sports, socially-priced tickets, and flexible opening hours.

In recognition of Baden's contributions, Bull praised her for her role in the opening of the new Horner Bath and the demolition of the old West Bath, paving the way for a new building. The Bremer Bäder Gesellschaft recently moved into its new operational headquarters on Wilhelm-Herbst-Straße.

Marco Lübke, the sports spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, commented on Baden's resignation, calling for a rigorous, nonpartisan analysis of city pool management in Bremen. He deemed the dismissal long overdue, citing inconsistent city management and ineffective operation of public pools for some time.

The new leadership will need to focus on strategic review, operational efficiency, community engagement, and trust-building—all vital to the organization's future. Innovative solutions and partnerships could play significant roles in addressing Bremer Bäder Gesellschaft's challenging landscape, ensuring its continued provision of recreational, school, and competitive swimming facilities for Bremen's residents.

During the transition period, Frank Fischer and Uwe Siefke, in their current roles as heads of finance and technology, will assume management responsibilities, as Bremer Bäder Gesellschaft faces the need for urgent reorganization in both business and financial aspects. The new leadership will focus on reviewing strategies, improving operational efficiency, engaging with the community, and rebuilding trust, crucial steps to secure the organization's future and address the challenges it currently faces in providing recreational, school, and competitive swimming facilities for Bremen's residents.
