Barca's Summer Signee Might Be Temporarily Transferred Out Due to Registration Problems, According to Relevo Reports
A Barça star who signed with the team during the summer transfer window might be loaned out during the upcoming January transfer period due to registration issues, as reported by Relevo, citing unnamed sources.
Financial Fair Play (FFP) once again posed a significant challenge, allowing Barcelona to make only two significant signings for Hansi Flick's squad in preparation for the 2023/2024 season.
The two players were Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig, acquired for a potential $63 million (€60 million), and Pau Victor from Girona for $2.6 million (€2.5 million).
However, FFP restrictions made it difficult for them to be registered, only becoming eligible once Barcelona took advantage of a temporary loophole opened up by long-term injuries suffered by center backs Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo.
This solution was merely a temporary solution until January, and it has already been reported that Dani Olmo has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave the club for free in that month if his situation isn't resolved.
At a press lunch with media members on Monday, President Joan Laporta attempted to reassure people.
"We are working on the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, and we are exploring all possible options," Laporta explained.
"One of them is the judicial route, and appealing that the margin left by Ter Stegen's injury leaves us room to register Dani," Laporta added, before mentioning that the new contract with Nike is "crucial."
"La Liga has asked us to submit it through the Assembly, and we will comply with this formalities on the 21st [of December]," he promised.
In the interim, Relevo reports that Pau Victor could leave on loan in January. It remains to be seen if this plan actually goes through, with rumors that the Nike deal won't be enough to meet the 1:1 requirement under FFP rules.
Should a loan go through, head coach Hansi Flick would be without one of his main backup options for Robert Lewandowski, aside from Ferran Torres.
- If the rumors are true, Atletico Madrid could be interested in taking Pau Victor on loan during the January transfer period.
- Hansi Flick might need to find a replacement for Pau Victor, as he would provide valuable cover for striker Robert Lewandowski.
- Dani Olmo's contract includes a clause allowing him to leave Barcelona for free in January if his registration issues aren't resolved, which could leave Hansi Flick without one of his potential star players.
- Should Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo recover from their injuries before January, it could potentially resolve Barcelona's registration issues, allowing Dani Olmo and Pau Victor to stay at the club and not be loaned out or forced to leave on a free transfer.
