Bank in Germany now providing Bitcoin cold storage wallets to customers, manufactured by the Austrian Mint.

In a groundbreaking move, German bank Raiffeisen Volksbank Bayern Mitte has announced the introduction of a secure cold wallet solution for customers to store their Bitcoin. The solution, known as "chainlock," is developed by the Austrian State Printing House (OSD), renowned for its high-security document printing expertise with over 200 years of history.

The "chainlock" cold wallet offers users a smartphone app that enables them to check their received cold wallet and monitor the value of their Bitcoin in FIAT currencies such as euros or dollars. The extensive security measures of OSD ensure that the private key becomes visible to a person for the first time at the point of sale or transfer.

Users can reveal their private key on the "VR-BitcoinGoCard" by scrubbing off the high-security film only when they want to sell or transfer their Bitcoins to another wallet. The production of the "VR-BitcoinGoCard" takes place completely offline in a high-security area where Austrian passports, driver's licenses, and other high-security documents are produced.

The "VR-BitcoinGoCard" incorporates various security features such as holograms, optically variable image elements, microprinting, UV printing, and high-security film. It is a true cold wallet without needing electricity, updates, or any particular transfer technology standard.

While many traditional banks typically do not provide direct cold wallet storage services for Bitcoin through their online banking platforms, banks that offer Bitcoin-related services usually provide custodial wallets or investment products/trading platforms. However, it is not confirmed whether Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Bayern Mitte offers cold wallet storage integrated with online banking without specific information from the bank.
