2025 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards Announced

The 2025 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards have been announced, with the winners showcasing innovation, design, performance, driver satisfaction, and value. The awards, which are the longest-running new-vehicle awards not associated with a single publication, were announced at a press conference during the Detroit Auto Show media days.

In the car category, the winner for 2025 is yet to be confirmed. However, the spotlight is on the utility and truck segments.

The Ford Ranger has been named the 2025 North American Truck of the Year, receiving 183 votes. The Ranger, developed with input from several global R&D centers, boasts advanced drivetrain options including 2.3L, 2.7L, and 3.0L EcoBoost engines in the US market. Jack Nerad of America on the Road Radio applauded the Ranger's combination of utility, comfort, and convenience, while Drew Winter of WardsAuto highlighted its "solid and refined chassis." The Ranger's budget-friendly pricing, fuel economy, and towing capabilities were also appreciated. This marks the fifth consecutive year a Ford truck has won the award.

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has emerged as the winner in the utility vehicle category, receiving 187 votes. John Davis, host of MotorWeek, praised the ID. Buzz, calling it an "inspired Volkswagen design for the ages." The ID. Buzz, which has a range of over 230 miles, is fun to drive, according to the NACTOY awards. It also offers a spacious interior and was praised for its blend of fun, fuel efficiency, and elegant design.

The Honda Civic Hybrid, which won the North American Car of the YearTM award with 205 votes, was another standout choice. John Voelcker of Car and Driver commended the Honda Civic Hybrid for bringing Honda's superb and fuel-efficient hybrid system into a compact sedan. The Civic Hybrid was praised for its blend of fun, fuel efficiency, and elegant design.

The NACTOY awards are the result of hundreds of hours of evaluation from 50 professional automotive journalists from across North America. The jury consists of automotive journalists and experts who evaluate vehicles across innovation, design, performance, driver satisfaction, and value. Further updates from the NACTOY jury and the winning brands are expected as the year progresses.

The Detroit Auto Show is currently underway, providing an opportunity for the public to see these award-winning vehicles up close. For more detailed information about the Car and Utility winners or reasons behind their selection, that information may require checking the official NACTOY announcements or recent auto industry reports.
