Asia-Pacific & Middle East Drive Global Air Traffic Growth to 9.8 Billion Passengers by 2025

The latest ACI global air traffic statistics reveal that the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions are driving worldwide passenger growth. By 2025, these regions are expected to continue this significant rise, with global passenger traffic projected to grow by 3.7% Year-on-Year (YoY) from 2024.

Looking ahead to mid-2025, global passenger traffic is expected to increase by 2.1% YoY. International traffic is forecasted to rise by 4.9% YoY, while domestic traffic is set to contract by 0.7% YoY. This growth is largely driven by international travel, which is projected to reach up to 5.3% in 2025, compared to 2.4% for domestic traffic.

By 2025, Africa is forecasted to reach 273 million passengers, with a growth of 9.4% YoY, led by Northern Africa and boosted by tourism and rising middle-class demand. Similarly, Latin America-Caribbean is expected to reach 789 million passengers, with a growth of 4.1% YoY, supported by leisure demand and low-cost carrier expansion.

The Middle East is forecasted to reach 466 million passengers in 2025, with a growth of 5.9% YoY, underpinned by investment and tourism. However, risks from geopolitical instability remain. Asia-Pacific, the largest region, is expected to reach 3.6 billion passengers, with a growth of 5.6% YoY, driven by Southern and Southeast Asia, though East Asia's outlook remains cautious. Europe, the second-largest region, is forecasted to reach over 2.5 billion passengers, with international travel leading growth.

By the end of 2025, global air travel is expected to reach 9.8 billion passengers. The Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions continue to drive this growth, with international travel remaining the main engine. However, regional variations and geopolitical risks may impact these forecasts.
