Ashurst appoints new leader for its Morocco office

In a significant move for its African expansion, global law firm Ashurst has announced the appointment of Ouns Lemseffer as the leader of its newly-opened Casablanca office. With over 15 years of legal experience, Lemseffer brings a wealth of expertise in project finance, restructuring, and financial market operations to the role, with a particular focus on the Francophone Africa region.

Lemseffer's impressive track record and vast experience make her well-equipped to lead the Morocco business for Ashurst. Prior to joining Ashurst, she was a partner at global law firm Clifford Chance, where she co-headed the Francophone Africa practice and led the capital markets, financial regulatory, and structured finance department.

The opening of Ashurst's Casablanca office is in preparation for the firm's expansion in Africa. Morocco, and Casablanca in particular, is a key hub for international companies doing business in Africa. The buoyant renewable energy industry and emerging hydrogen market, significant infrastructure investment, and relatively mature securitization market present considerable business opportunities.

Lemseffer views Ashurst as the perfect platform for her work due to its well-integrated global Africa group and longstanding reputation in the region. She hopes to set up a presence in Morocco and further develop Ashurst's offering in the Francophone Africa region.

The new Casablanca office will strengthen Ashurst's Africa capabilities. Ashurst's projects and energy transition global head, Lee McDonald, believes that Lemseffer's appointment will advance the firm's Africa practice. Her experience in M&A and private equity matters in the North and West African energy and infrastructure sectors will be invaluable.

Zakaria Lahmar, who has experience in Francophone Africa, particularly in project financing, restructuring, and financial markets, has been named to lead Ashurst's Casablanca office. His appointment, along with Lemseffer's, marks a significant step forward for Ashurst in its African expansion.

With Lemseffer at the helm, Ashurst's Casablanca office is poised to become a leading player in the Francophone Africa legal market.
