Arctic Russia's Workers Top Wage Charts, Chukotka Leads with 172,000 Rubles

In Russia's Arctic regions, workers enjoy high median wages, according to recent data. Chukotka Autonomous Okrug leads the pack with a median wage of 172,000 rubles, enough to purchase 4.3 baskets of goods and services.

Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, governed by Vladimir Vladimirov, follows closely with a median wage of 148,643 rubles, allowing for 5.1 baskets. This region tops the nationwide ranking. Nenets Autonomous Okrug is not far behind, with a median wage of 116,800 rubles, equating to 4 baskets, placing it third.

Median wages provide a more accurate picture of real worker incomes than averages. Murmansk Oblast, with a median wage of 91,100 rubles for 3.1 baskets, ranks eighth. Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, at 107,200 rubles for 3.8 baskets, secures the fifth spot. Yakutia, with a median wage of 107,200 rubles for 3.4 baskets, ranks seventh.

Arctic regions dominate the list of highest median wages in Russia. Chukotka, Yamalo-Nenets, and Nenets Autonomous Okrugs lead the ranking, offering workers higher purchasing power. Median wages serve as a reliable indicator of income distribution in these regions.
