Approximately €490,000 is the estimated price for the construction of a fresh cultural center in Schneverdingen
Schneverdingen Cultural Association Faces Funding Gap, Explores Loan Calculator and Donations
The Schneverdingen Cultural Association is preparing for the grand opening of its new cultural house on May 3, but the organization is grappling with a significant funding challenge. According to councilman Jan-Kosta Recksiek and mayor Meike Moog-Steffens, the association is facing a funding gap of approximately 487,200 euros.
In an effort to bridge this gap, the association has initiated discussions with local banks, Volksbank Lüneburger Heide and Sparkasse Harburg-Buxtehude, for a potential loan ranging from 450,000 to 500,000 euros. The loan, if approved, would come with a special repayment plan for the members.
Dr. Carsten Bargmann, the chairman of the Schneverdingen Cultural Association, discussed the potential loan at last Friday's extraordinary general meeting. He acknowledged that they had not quite closed the gap, but the board has been working diligently since the start of construction in 2021 to prevent or close the funding gap.
To keep the loan amount as low as possible, the association has been actively soliciting donations through its social channels since last week. In March, the association received 15,000 euros in donations, according to Dr. Bargmann. The association continues to encourage donations from the community, even considering a GoFundMe campaign to reach a wider audience.
The high interest on the loan could potentially restrict the Schneverdingen Cultural Association in the long run, according to both councilman Recksiek and mayor Moog-Steffens. They have advised starting a broad appeal again due to the lack of clarity regarding the remaining funding gap.
The operating concept and financing data were presented to the VA at the end of March. A decision regarding the loan is expected mid-April.
The Schneverdingen Cultural Association has already secured 84% of the funding for a 3.2 million construction project. Despite the funding challenges, the association remains optimistic about the opening of its new cultural house. The bank will be secured with a perpetual usufruct.
The Schneverdingen Cultural Association's project continues to enjoy the support of the local council, with councilman Recksiek and mayor Moog-Steffens expressing their continued willingness and support for the project. They have emphasized the importance of the cultural house to the community and the need to ensure its success.
