In an unprecedented court ruling, a Krasnodar entrepreneur named Marina faced the consequences for illegally using a renowned American jeans brand, resulting in a hefty $9,500 fine. Despite her attempts to appeal and challenge the decision in higher courts, her attempts were shot down.

Established in the heart of the 19th century, the American corporation owns an array of trademarks, which were never handed over to the defendant. During a routine marketplace check, the company stumbled upon counterfeit t-shirts adorned with their brand. It was alleged by the plaintiff that a whopping 700 counterfeit items found their way into consumers' hands.

In an interview with "Kommersant-Chernomorie", Marina voiced her disagreement with the high compensation demanded, stating that it far exceeded the cost of the counterfeit goods sold. She also pointed out the American company's status as part of a corporation, with the U.S. being on the list of unfriendly states towards Russia.

However, courts have consistently ruled that nobody is allowed to employ signs resembling another's trademark without permission from the rightful owner.
