Buick Introduces the Electra L7, the AEP Extended-Range Electric Sedan
In a significant move towards electric vehicles (EVs), Buick has unveiled the Electra L7, an AEP extended-range electric sedan, in China. The Electra L7 is the latest model under Buick's Electra sub-brand and is set to launch in Q4 of this year.
The Electra L7 boasts an advanced driver assistance system developed by Momenta, a Chinese autonomous driving startup. This system is powered by Momenta's R6 end-to-end large language AI model, providing full-scenario driver assistance capabilities, including Urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) and parking assistance.
One of the key features of the Electra L7 is its utilization of the Qualcomm SA8775P cockpit chip, making it one of the first models in China to utilize this technology. The electric motor of the Electra L7 produces a maximum power of 252 kW (338 horsepower).
The Electra L7 measures 5,032 mm in length, 1,952 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. It delivers a battery range of up to 302 km, and with a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, its combined range exceeds 1,400 kilometers. The Electra L7 offers an extended-range powertrain, with a 1.5-liter engine serving as the range extender.
Pre-sales for the Electra L7 will commence on September 28, and it is now accepting reservations, though pricing details remain undisclosed. The Electra L7 Extended-Range Sedan is built by Buick and will be marketed first in China.
The popularity of Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs) has been on the rise in China over recent years. From January to August, EREV retail sales totaled 732,000 units, marking a 7.33 percent year-on-year increase. Buick is the latest automaker to adopt the extended-range powertrain in the Chinese market, following in the footsteps of other manufacturers.
