Altered Procedures and Fees for Performing DBS (Criminal Background) Checks, with a Shift in Application Methods
Starting August 12, 2022, British Rowing has moved its DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks processing to a new online platform called "Know Your People". This change aims to streamline the application process for members and improve overall efficiency.
The fees associated with DBS checks have also been updated. For voluntary roles, the cost will be £12.13, while for paid roles, the fee is £61.63. It's important to note that these fees are subject to change by British Rowing or DBS updates, and exact fees from August 12, 2025, would need verification from British Rowing’s official communications or website.
During a short period between 1 August and 12 August, there will be a downtime during which the existing platform for DBS checks will be unavailable, and clubs will not be able to apply for DBS checks through British Rowing.
British Rowing encourages clubs to agree on a reimbursement policy for DBS check costs with club members. This policy will help ensure that all parties are aware of the costs involved and can plan accordingly.
The funds collected from DBS application fees will be invested in other proactive activities to support participants' welfare and enjoyment of the sport. Additionally, the expansion of British Rowing’s safeguarding, welfare, and governance support to clubs and participants is planned with the DBS check fees.
Know Your People offers several benefits, including integration with ClubHub for a seamless user experience, ID verification via Post Office branches, and potential future enhancements like Digital ID verification.
It's crucial to remember that DBS checks are a legal requirement for anyone working with children and/or adults at risk in England and Wales, regardless of whether the work is paid or voluntary.
For more precise details about the new platform and updated fees for the specified dates, please consult British Rowing’s official website or contact their member services directly.
The rowing community can now benefit from the improved efficiency of DBS checks processing, as British Rowing has moved the service to the new online platform, Know Your People. This move, along with the investment of DBS application fees in welfare and sport enjoyment, demonstrates the rowing business's commitment to sports and its participants' safety. The cost for DBS checks varies, with voluntary roles costing £12.13 and paid roles £61.63, although these fees may change in the future. It is advisable for rowing clubs to establish a reimbursement policy for these costs.
