Allahabad High Court Stops Eviction of Janeshwar Mishra Trust from 7 Vikramaditya Marg Bungalow in Uttar Pradesh

In a significant turn of events, the Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench has temporarily halted the eviction of the Janeshwar Mishra Trust from a bungalow located at 7 Vikramaditya Marg. The bungalow was originally allotted to the Trust on January 30, 2017, for a five-year period, which was later extended to ten years under property department regulations.

However, a 2021 rule amendment restricting property allocations to a maximum of five years has caused a dispute. The government contends that based on this amendment, the bungalow's allocation expired on January 2, 2022. The Trust, on the other hand, argues that this newer five-year rule should not be applied retrospectively.

The court has questioned the government's continued acceptance of rent after the supposed expiration date in January 2022. In response, the government has been given three weeks to provide a response. The court's directive to halt the eviction was issued by Justices Rajan Roy and Manish Kumar.

The current status of the bungalow remains unchanged until the third week of August, allowing the Trust and Akhilesh Yadav to retain control temporarily. It is important to note that the court did not make a decision on Abdullah Azam's pleas in the fake passport and dual PAN card cases, which were also being heard during the same proceedings.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Canara Bank has reported a 22% rise in Q1 profit to ₹4,752 crore. The improvement in asset quality and capital ratios contributed to this positive growth.

[1] The term "temporarily" in this context refers to the temporary halt of the eviction process, not the tenure of the bungalow's lease. The bungalow's lease term was extended to ten years, and the current status will remain unchanged until the third week of August.

[2] Despite the ongoing dispute over the bungalow's lease, the government is actively investing in the Indian industry, as Canara Bank reported a 22% rise in Q1 profit, amounting to ₹4,752 crore.
