Akamai Bolsters NZ Cybersecurity with New Auckland Scrubbing Centre and Cloud Data Centre
Akamai Technologies is bolstering its New Zealand presence with a new Scrubbing Centre and Cloud Data Centre in Auckland. The facility, set to launch soon, will defend against escalating cyber threats and enhance cloud capabilities.
Akamai, a global leader in content delivery and cloud security, has witnessed a 22% surge in DDoS attacks targeting the financial services industry in 2022. To combat this, the Auckland centre will employ a unique segmentation feature to maximise system availability and minimise failure impact.
The centre will also defend Akamai's global and New Zealand customers from large, multi-terabit attacks. It aims to accelerate cloud journeys and bring basic cloud computing capabilities to underserved locations. The facility will feature new software-defined Prolexic architecture for faster installation and support for Routed 3.0 zoning.
In Q3 2022, CERT NZ responded to 2,069 cyber security incidents, with 30% resulting in NZ $8.9 million in direct financial loss. Akamai's new centre will help mitigate such risks, aligning with the company's Connected Cloud program expansion in the Asia Pacific and Japan region.
Akamai's Auckland Scrubbing Centre and Cloud Data Centre, set to become operational soon, will fortify New Zealand's cybersecurity landscape. By defending against DDoS attacks and enhancing cloud capabilities, the centre will support Akamai's customers and contribute to the region's digital growth.
