Air India Dismissing Cabin Staff Prompts Call for CBI Investigation by Aviation Workers Union

Hey there! Listen up, folks, 'cause this story's got some legs. The Air India fiasco ain't over yet, and it looks like another twist has come to light. The Aviation Industry Employees' Guild (AIEG) has raised a ruckus, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the recent dismissal of two cabin crew members by Air India.

The Guild president, George Abraham, spilled the beans on Friday, and let me tell you, it's a wild ride. Apparently, these crew members were booted out for reporting a technical hiccup in a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, and there's more to the story than meets the eye.

According to Abraham, pressure was applied to these crew members to alter their initial statements about the technical flaw. He claims that this situation poses a significant risk to the entire aviation sector. And get this—they've penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a thorough, fair investigation into the matter.

It all went down on May 14, 2024, during a flight from Mumbai to London. Seems like the slide rafts got a mind of their own, popping open in manual mode due to a technical issue with the plane's door. Abraham pointed out that these slide rafts should only activate in automatic mode, chaos ensued.

Apparently, the whole crew, including the pilot, admitted the technical issue in their initial statements. But, under alleged pressure from Air India's management, that statement was later revised.

Get this—to hush up the situation, the management is accused of demanding these employees change their statements. And when they refused, what happened next? Yep, you guessed it—they lost their jobs.

The Guild claims that the management attempted to suppress the issue by trying to silence these employees. Both crew members reported the matter to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and the regulator conducted an 'informal investigation'. But, as of today, no results have been disclosed from that investigation after eight long months have passed.

With the recent plane crash in Ahmedabad, the spotlight is back on this issue, and the Guild isn't backing down. They've sent another letter to PM Modi, hoping that this investigation will get the push it needs.

So there you have it, folks! Keep your eyes peeled for updates on this developing story. The aircraft industry's got a lot to answer for, and we'll be keeping you posted. Fly safe, my friends!

  1. The Aviation Industry Employees' Guild (AIEG) has raised concerns about the interference in finance matters, as they accuse Air India's management of attempting to suppress a technical issue by demanding employees change their statements and ultimately terminating them.
  2. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Guild has requested a CBI probe into the matter, asserting that such incidents could pose significant financial risks to the entire airline industry, given the potential for widespread safety implications.
