Asda Introduces Lowest-Priced Non-Membership Meal Deal

In a move aimed at shaking up the supermarket industry, Asda has launched its first ever fixed-price meal deal, priced at just £3.74. This new offering, which does not require any loyalty cards, is claimed to be the lowest priced non-membership meal deal on the market.

The meal deal includes a main, snack, and drink, with customers able to choose from 132 mains, 336 snacks, and 222 drinks included in the deal. Asda is expecting to sell 700,000 meal deals this week.

One of the standout meal deal combinations, according to Asda, is the chicken and bacon triple wrap, toffee apple slices, and a Starbucks Grande Cup, which would typically cost £7.38. By using the new deal, customers could save up to 50% in comparison to buying each of the items individually outside of the deal.

Other supermarkets have also adjusted their meal deal prices. Sainsbury's standard meal deal now costs £5.50, up from £5, making it the most expensive supermarket meal deal. Tesco increased the price of its meal deal from £3.60 to £3.85 for Tesco Clubcard holders last month. Morrisons offers a standard meal deal for £3.60 with a Morrisons More Card, while non-members pay £4.

Co-op's meal deal price is £3.50 for loyalty card members, but £4 for non-members. Waitrose's standard meal deal costs £5, making it the most expensive supermarket meal deal. However, Boots, although not a supermarket, also offers a meal deal, costing £3.75 with a Boots Advantage card and £4 without one.

Interestingly, food inflation rose to 5.1% in August, up from 4.9% in July. This increase in food prices may be contributing to the rise in meal deal prices across the board.

In contrast, the total package price of £3.50 for a main dish, a side, and a drink at Co-op is available exclusively to loyalty card members as an incentive to encourage customer loyalty and repeat purchases by giving them access to special discounted pricing that is not offered to non-members.

It's clear that supermarkets are continuing to compete on price and value, with Asda's new meal deal offering a significant saving for customers. Whether this trend will continue remains to be seen, but for now, shoppers can enjoy a tasty and affordable meal deal at Asda.
